Problems We Treat

Shoulder Pain

The human shoulder is one of the most complex joints in the body. With muscle attachments running to both the front and back of the trunk as well as to the collar region it provides a greater range of motion than any other. Unfortunately, this also means that it is subject to a greater number of injuries, both chronic and acute than other joints.

Chronic shoulder pain is most commonly caused by overuse or poor body mechanics. Acute or sudden injuries can be caused by overstretching a muscle, tendon or ligament, overusing a muscle or tendon, twisting of the shoulder joint or an abrupt impact.

Common Causes of Shoulder Pain

While normally thought of as a sports injury for swimmers, baseball players, golfers and those involved in racquet sports, virtually anyone can suffer shoulder pain from office and construction workers to musicians. Some of the most common shoulder issues that our physiotherapist help patients with are:

  • Chronic Neck Pain
  • Frozen Shoulder
  • Rotator Cuff Tendonitis & Impingement
  • Shoulder and Collar Bone Fracture
  • Shoulder Instability
  • Swimmers Shoulders

Types of Treatment

Luckily, by working closely with treating physicians, orthopedic surgeons and personal trainers we have been able to develop treatment protocols that help both relieve our patient's pain and in the case of chronic issues, eliminate the underlying cause of the problem. Some of the methods we use might include:

  • Electrotherapy
  • Joint Mobilizations
  • Rotator Cuff Rehabilitation
  • Shoulder Blade Stabilization Exercise
  • Soft Tissue Massage
  • Specific Physiotherapy Exercises for Shoulder Pain

We also generally recommend specific exercises to strengthen the trunk muscles and increase trunk mobility. By learning to use the body's trunk as a motion initiator the stress placed on the shoulders can be greatly reduced and re-injury of the shoulder prevented.

No Need to Suffer from Shoulder Pain

There is virtually no part of daily life that shoulder pain will not impact. Pain and stiffness can make the simple act of raising a glass, to take a drink, a trial by fire. There is no need to suffer unnecessarily. With proper therapy, the majority of shoulder problems can be resolved and pain illuminated.
